Delivering a Healthy WA
Clinical Senate

Introduction to the Clinical Senate

In line with the Department’s commitment to Delivering a Healthy WA, I am very pleased to introduce the Clinical Senate.

The Clinical Senate is made up of a diverse and dynamic group of clinicians who vigorously debate challenging issues confronting the whole of health in WA.

The Senate operates outside of the formal Department of Health structure and provides a source of independent clinical advice to the Western Australian public health system.

It provides a forum where collective knowledge on clinical issues is shared and decisions are made across the system to the benefit of all.

Evidence shows that Clinical Governance leads not only to better care for patients, but also improves efficiency of service delivery.

The Clinical Senate also relies on support and information from patients, doctors, nurses, carers, consumers, other health care professionals, academics and a range of others, who all bring to the health care planning table a unique and valuable perspective.

Community workshops will be held for people to voice their views and be heard through the Senate – including those who are often left out of the health care planning process.

This will provide opportunities to strengthen links between professionals and form new partnerships across the full spectrum of WA Health, promoting the exchange of current ideas, information and research.
