Delivering a Healthy WA
Clinical Senate

Introduction to the Clinical Senate

From the Director General

Now in its ninth year, the Clinical Senate has established its role and reputation as an authoritative source of clinical advice to WA Health.

Over the years, the Senate has debated many complex and controversial topics. The Senate’s topic selection process is influenced by the pressing health issues of the day, and the resulting debates resonate with key healthcare reform directions emerging around Australia and the world.

This website provides a record of past Clinical Senate debates and the recommendations arising from them.  These forums foster a spirit of sharing ideas and knowledge, building relationships and strengthening coordination across disciplines and services.

The value of the Clinical Senate resides in its more than 80 members drawn from diverse clinical backgrounds and professional skill sets, they share a passion for improving healthcare services and population health in Western Australia.

Since 2003, Clinical Senate debates have stimulated many healthcare improvement and reform initiatives in WA Health.  Our future program promises a series of thought-provoking debates on matters of vital concern as we strive to meet the ever-increasing demands on Western Australia’s public healthcare system.
